The Beginning
After several days of cancelled flights, I finally left Learra's at 8.30 on Tuesday, taking a taxi to the airport. Kearie is always saying that she worries about me being forgetful and that I could do with a carer, so I am not telling her I left my new samsung tablet in the taxi and the poor taxi guy had to chase me down through the airport, to return it.. Plus it was really hot in Singapore so I took my cardigan off and placed it on my luggage, I haven't seen it since, no idea where it went, so there's that!
I had about a 3.5 hr wait at Tullamarine and then a 7 hr flight to Singapore. I could only get economy on the flight, so that was a bit disappointing. I am hoping to upgrade on the way back. I had a 5 hr wait for my flight to London and I arrived in Heathrow at 6.30 am on Wednesday and then decided it would be quicker to take the train to Kings Cross and then a train to Edinburgh, otherwise I had to move airports or wait all day for a flight to Edinburgh. On the way I spotter a white horse in the distance. There are a few of them around England and one even done by the Ausatralians in one of the wars, but it wasn't a horse. I discovered this one is not made of Chalk like the others, but of lime, to get the white colour. The holiday begins...
Thursday was spent quietly at home, with She and Ally's grandchildren James and Jaye coming to visit. Jaye brought her new daughter too, so it was lovely to meet little Nova. we spent the afternoon catching up, as it has been 13 years since I saw them both. They are young adults now, they were still children last time we met.
On Friday She (Sheonagh) and I went into town and did some supermarket shopping and had lunch in a little cafe called the Green Cafe. It was tiny, but had good food. I tried a Fruit Shoot as I was told it was a juice drink, it was cordial people, cordial.... Blackcurrent and Apple, I think.. I was on the lookout for a coat, as it was quite cold when I arrived. I found the one and only coat in the shop, it fitted and it was on special for 30 pound, so win win. The weather has improved and I haven't needed it since...
Saturday Ally drove us to a local distillery, Glenturrent. It was really interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed it and I learned a lot. We were given small drams of whisky at the end of the tour, it is not for me. I left mine on the bar and when I looked back She was drinking it... the Scots don't waste anything. It made me smile.
We had lunch in a gelic restaurant in Crieff and then went to visit the Bon Scott statue and memorial in Kerrimuir, Bon was born in the hospital in Forfar, but his parents lived in Kerrimuir so that is his home town, only until he was 3 years though as that was when his family moved to Australia. When we got to the statue, there were two Aussie ladies there, they were from Frenmantle, where Bon is buried. So his Aussie history is a bit longer than his Scotish one, but they are very proud of him here and they have a 3 day festival called Bonfest there every year.
Kerrimuir is also the home of JM Barrie, who wrote the novel Peter Pan, so there is a statue of Peter in the town square. We were going to get an icecream too, but sadly the shop was closed, so we headed home.
Sunday we went to Dundee to check out the local travel agents to see what they had on the Balkans for tours ets, but they were not overly helpful. I need to come back on Monday when the guy who does that kind of thing would be in. We went to a place called The Martins for lunch, it was like a nature reserve kind of place, the food was delicious and it as always was plentiful. I find it hard to finish everything on my plate here.
Monday we went back to Dundee and surprise, surprise the guy that knows everything cannot help me. It appears noone ever wants to go where I want to go, so I will have to sort it myself. Oh well, I have done that before.
We then took a bus to St Andrews, what a lovely town. We walked about a bit and had lunch before returning by bus to Forfar.
Tuesday I spent the day looking into trains and planes for travel to Portugal or Croatia. It was a real headache and I could not get what I wanted at a reasonable price. So basically a wasted day, but a day of rest and chatting to good friends.
Wednesday we had another quiet day at home, doing laundry and I finally booked some buses at a very cheap price to get me to London and then Paris. James came to visit again in the afternoon and we had a good catch up.
Thursday we went to Montrose and had lunch at Casterton, we then went shopping in Arbroath for plants for Ally's garden. I brought some really cute little animal figurines, they are adorable.
Today we went back to Arbroath to get all the plants Ally didn't buy yesterday and on leaving the place I discovered that I did not have my purse. I did not buy anything or even get my purse out, but never the less it was missing, I somehow upturned my bag when getting into the car.. Don't ask... I quick trip back to the nursery and someone had handed it in, so grateful. Now we may have to revisit the carer thing....
