Croatia and not booking anything through Opodo again...
After finally waiting half the day to board the flight to Croatia, I find out that the booking I made through Opodo didn't include my booked baggage that I paid for. The airline staff where great and tried several times to contact Opodo, with no luck. So I had to get out some cash and pay 40 Euros, 70 something dollars to get my case on board, I contacted Opodo while I was waiting to board and the agent was quite good and once I sent her the receipt to show I had to pay again, she has processed my refund, although it is going to take up to 10 days to get it back. Oh well stuff happens
I finally get to Croatia, arriving at 9.05pm. Only to discover that the bus ticket I booked, through Opodo, would not be accepted by the local company. So I had to buy another ticket. Only costing half the amount Opodo charged me too. It was late, I was annoyed, what can you do?? Opodo not looking too good about now..
The bus dropped me almost 500 metres from my accommodation, I walked through the old town and it was beautiful. It was almost 10 pm by this time but the place was crowded, even families out and about.
I finally made it to my accommodation, to find if closed.. Bugger, I tried to find the contact email I had from the owned and I couldn't find any record of it, so things not going so well. After about 45 minutes I remembered that the booking.com had used my Gmail account, which I never use. I finally found the email and there was a message from Peter about 8.45pm asking if I was coming. I tried to message him back, but no response. after another 15 minutes or so I finally found a number for him. He answered and said he would com back into the city. I have no idea where he lived, but it took him over an hour to arrive. The street was busy and I had no concerns safety wise although it was almost midnight by now. There were still people everywhere. A bus went by about 11pm and the aisle was full of people standing up, like peak hour. It is a lively place.
Once Peter arrived is was after midnight, he told me he had relet my room as he didn't think I was coming. I explained that I had paid already, but he said he doesn't know that as Booking.com does not send him the money until 45 days later. Anyway he was kind and he said he had found me another place to stay. So we retraced my steps back into the heart of the old city, this time he carried my luggage, yes!! So here I was following a complete stranger through small backstreets with no other folk around, it was almost 1pm by now and we were in the backstreets, robbed and murdered?? He had a good vibe and he did take me to other accommodation. Although this room was up 3 flights of stairs. Luckily he still had the luggage. The first two flights where really long and cement, the last one was shorter, but steeper and wooden. I couldn't see myself staying in that room too long, the stairs would do me in. Luckily he thought so too, he said that the next day he would move me to the bottom floor. Which he did, it is a much nicer room and has a washer and drier in the landing outside,
I spent yesterday walking around the old town, it is lovely very expensive. It cost me over $80 for lunch yesterday, okay it was steak and I did have a bacardi, but still. I went to a grocery and brought rolls and cheese so I can have a cheaper dinner tonight. My legs are aching from all the walking and the stairs.
The alley leading to my new roomThe shops are amazing, tiny little things, but chocked full of stuff
I have booked two tours before I arrived and the address I gave them was the old accommodation, so I asked Peter to help me with that. I have no idea what the address of this place is, but he sorted it for me and all is good. I have extended my stay by 2 days as I want to fit everything in.
I have done a load of washing this morning and after being in the dryer for an hour, it is still wet. I may end up with clothes drying all over the room, but I am giving it another hour, just in case...
