Leaving Romania and coming home..
Well I left Romania and flew to Heathrow, I had a long wait at Heathrow for my flight to Singapore, But I had a bit of good news as the Qantas lady gave me Premium economy on the flight to Singapore, so that was going to be better than the plain old economy with the plebs... Which is where I belong, I know...
I was super excited as I has missed upgrades on both flights over. The lady was super nice and told me to wait until last to board and she would see what she could do for me, sounds promising. As you would all know I am always early for everything, I hate being late. So I went to the gate quite early and chatted to a young Kiwi girl who was also on staff travel and had to wait until last as well. She was hoping for business class too, we hope, we dream, we get disappointed... Anyway as we waiting I could not believe the amount of people going though premium and business, I was a little concerned I might lose my premium seat. When we finally got through I watched the lady do some typing, reprint my boarding pass and rip up my old one. I was hoping she was upgrading me, but was worried I was going back to economy and 14 hrs of crap. She gave me a big smile and said business class.... YES!! I was so stoked. The young Kiwi got my premium so she was happy too. I couldn't believe it. So happy..
It was amazing. The food was brilliant, real glassware, crockery and silver cutlery. Ohh so posh.. We even had a menu to select breakfast and dinner. I loved every second of it. The fact the bed laid all the way down was brilliant. The first time my ankle didn't swell on a flight since 2012..
Breakfast was toast and pancakes with syrup and walnuts. It was very nice
I had about 5 hours sleep, it was delightful. I then dozed on and off for the rest of the flight, Business class is def the way to go. So spoilt.
As we were descending into Singapore they warned us that the airport does not do announcements. So you need to check gates etc as there will be no warning. It reminded me of other times I have flown and all the missing passengers that get called over the intercom. I wonder how they can be late for a flight, like what are they doing??
My luggage had only been booked through to Singapore, so I find out I have to go through security retrieve my backs and come back through security again. It was a long tedious process but as I had a 4 hour wait, it wasn't a real concern.
I rebooked my baggage the lady told me the gate number and off I went. I grabbed something to eat and had a play on my phone. It then headed off to the gate. I would still have an almost 2 hour wait, but I do like to be early. I got to the gate and there had been a gate change, luckily a lady going to Helsinki was on the ball and so off I went to the new gate. I was literally the first person there, which was very strange so I sat down to wait and this young chap came up and asked if I was going to Melbourne on QF36, well "Yes" I said. He said you can come through now. I sailed through security as I was the only one there. I went up to the ground staff and I am like are you boarding now and they said " We are already boarded, we are waiting for you." Well shit!! Apparently we only had a 2 hr wait and the young Kiwi and told me wrong. I should have checked but my watch was on Romanian time and my phone was still on London time, so I have no idea what time it was. All my own fault of course. I was so embarrassed. I was like where do I go, "Follow me", this young important chap said, so off we went. As I boarded the plane I was full of apologies and the staff where lovely. The fist lady was like no worries I just need to know you know the safety protocol as we have just finished going through it. I was like yeah no worries and she reeled a few things off. Of course my seat was way down the back so I had to do the walk of shame all the way. I apologised to every light attendant I saw on the way down and there were quite a few of them. I was mortified.
As I get to my seat, guess what they start doing the safety crap, I have no idea what that first attendant was on, but it must be good. I was chatting to my seat neighbour and she said they announced over the plane that if Leonie Green was onboard could she light her call button, no help to me as I was at the gate, but at least they tried. One of the crew told me not to worry as we still left on time so no harm no foul.. And we arrived in Melbourne 30 minutes early, so there's that..
Anyway I met a lovely young lady called Jackie and we talked for all of the 7 hours home. It was one of the quickest 7 hours I have ever spent. She was delightful and we are now facebook friends.
I am not safely home and very tired, I hope to catch up with some of you in the next few weeks.
I have had an exciting few weeks and I so hope you have enjoyed my journey, thank you for coming with me via my blogs and for your support and encouragement. Til next time, Travel safe.
